I am very excited to announce the initial release of Slatwall, a free and open source enterprise level eCommerce platform. While it isn't the first open source Coldfusion eCommerce application, and sure not to be the last... I am very confident that it will answer the needs of businesses small and large in a wide variety of markets.
For anyone who has read my blog you will know that Slatwall is something that I am not only very proud of, but also something that has been in the works for over two years now. With my first attempt, I worked alone to create something that answered the immediate needs of the current company that I work for, Nytro Multisport. With this first attemp I went way outside of the mold with the approch that was taken. It was designed only as an add-on to existing inventory management systems and had some serious limitations.
It wasn't until September of 2010 when I teamed up with ten24 web solutions that the current iteration began to really take shape. With the help of Sumit Verma and Tony Garcia, we started from scratch again and built it from the ground up with all of the concepts and knowledge of the two previous attempts. Although we originally wanted to release our first version in January of 2011, I am very glad that we have taken the extra time to flush out the hundreds of business models and features required to create a versitile enterprise level system.
Hopefully you will be able to give it a trial run when evaluating eCommerce for your next project. I urge you to get involved and start requesting the features that you'd like to see. It's been great helping you get Slatwall to where it is. I'm very happy to be involved in this project and excited about where we're taking it from here on. This is just the beginning folks and I hope many of you will join the ride!

Is slatwall only for Mura CMS or can it operate ouside of Mura i.e. within other coldfusion frameworks - coldbox etc.

@Ade,
As it stands right now Slatwall is designed to run on Mura. However the majority of Slatwall runs independently on top of FW/1, which is very lightweight and easily included into other frameworks. There are only 2 points of integration with mura that Slatwall relies on; Logins & Site Pages.
If those two things can be replaced by a separate framework like coldbox, there is no reason that slatwall couldn't be ported over. In the event that someone wants to make the changes necessary to run on multiple backbones it is deffinetly something that myself and I'm sure the rest of the team would be interested in exploring further.
With that said, we selected Mura because it is an extremely robust system that is completely customizable for any project while still staying on an upgrade path. It was important to us that we have both a CMS & eCommerce system that could be taken out of the box, turned on, and have the capacity to build a site and sell products without having any development knowledge.
If you want to talk more about the posibility of running it on Coldbox, I would suggest posting a topic to our google group: http://groups.google.com/group/slatwallecommerce
